SL28 was selected from a single tree at Scott Agricultural Laboratories in Kenya in 1935. It is a tall variety known for its very high yields, exceptional cup quality, and drought resistance but is susceptible to all major coffee diseases. SL28 belongs to the Bourbon genetic group and is known for its rusticity which means trees can be returned to productivity even when left untended for years. SL28 is the most famous of the African varieties and is now found in Kenya, Malawi, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and even Latin America.
